We use a new redshift survey complete to mR ' within o from the center of the Coma cluster to measure the mass profile of the cluster to r h Gamma1 Mpc. High throughput spatially resolved spectroscopy is now possible with XMM, allowing to map the temperature structure of the hot intra-cluster medium with unprecedented accuracy. I give an overview of the first XMM results, including relaxed and unrelaxed clusters.   Plasma physics in clusters of galaxies Physics of Plas ( in A New Vision of an Old Cluster: Untangling Coma Berenices, edited by A. In this chapter we focus on the discussion of observational data on cluster mergers. The majority of the results shown comes from observations with the ROSAT observatory. Results from ASCA, BeppoSAX and from very recent observations performed with XMM-Newton are also included. We discuss the signature and diagnostics of the merger process in galaxy by: 7.

We have used deep R- and B-band CCD images (with ~ arcsec seeing) of the central ~ arcmin^2 of the Coma cluster core (and an associated ~ arcmin^2 control field) to study the early-type dwarf elliptical (dE) galaxy population. Analysis of the color-restricted control-field-corrected color-magnitude diagram (CMD) shows that the dE galaxy sequence is linear over the range Author: Jeff Secker, William E. Harris, Pat Cote, J. Together with Virgo, the Coma Berenices cluster is one of the most well-studied clusters at all wavelengths and in all aspects, from the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect to star formation in galaxies.

New Vision Of An Old Cluster, A - Untangling Coma Berenices Mazure Alain,Casoli Fabienne,Durret Florence — Author: Mazure Alain,Casoli Fabienne,Durret Florence. We aim at building a model of a cluster and its environment that matches the Coma cluster and its environment as closely as possible.

We use N-body simulations starting from constrained initial conditions in order to build such a model, where we iterate towards a Coma-like model by changing the initial constraints after each run so that the next run compares better to the Coma cluster. Author: E. van Kampen.

Six subclusters in the Coma cluster have been selected on the basis of a hierarchical clustering method that takes the gravitational interaction among galaxies into account. Of these, 3 central subclusters around the galaxies NGCNGCand NGC have been singled out.
